Born in England near the end of World War ll, Heather was reared in rural Illinois and studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. Her love of the mountain wilderness drew her west to Colorado.

Heather is inclined to paint the common, overlooked birds that are usually forsaken in favor of the bright, colorful and easily recognized. A Bartmann painting can best be described as a piece of art that includes a bird. Her unique talent is placing the bird correctly within its own natural habitat with a minimum of obtrusiveness. Her extreme attention to detail, combined with an extraordinary awareness of composition and design results in art that has an easily recognized and profound sensitivity for the subject.
