I was born near Amsterdam, Holland, and emigrated to the United States during World War II. Art has always been my focus. I won my first prize in an art competition at the age of 13. I studied art and art history at Yale University and with painters such as John Seerey Lester, Albert Handel and Hong Nian Zhang.

I love to travel, and am fortunate to have visited many very wild places where birds and animals still roam free. Usually I take paints and a camera. I find that painting a place makes me see and feel it more intensly.
