The artist notes: "This painting is included in the exhibit to call attention to scientific
research undertaken to conserve the tiger in the wild where pressure is mounting and there is very real doubt about its longterm preservation. Dedicated researchers find their efforts seriously
undermined by national and local politics as they work to stem the loss of natural habitat and curtail the asault by poachers at the frontline of an illegal trade in animal
parts. As with so many endangered
species around the world, these researchers deserve our support as they struggle for
the survival of this beautiful and marvellous animal. Let's hope that our
children will be able to share a world with such wonders and will be enriched by
our co-existence with more large mammals than the human kind!
"
Thus, the preservation of beautiful and marvellous tigers, just as the preservation of beautiful and marvellous birds--from the Resplendant Quetzel in Central America, to the Whooping Crane in North America, the Sacred Ibis in Africa, the Andean Condor in South America, the Spanish Imperial Eagle in Europe, and the Cassawary in Oceania--rests on the combined efforts of conservationists, policy-makers, and public support.
